Hotel Archer (c.1893-1921)

This former elegant hotel still stands in North Tonawanda, at the northeast corner of Oliver and Thompson streets.

The Archer Hotel (also called "Hotel Archer") is in operation as early as 1893. D. F. Higgins is the proprietor. W. H. Archer of Buffalo is the architect. "Two minutes walk from the depots. Oliver avenue. Rate, $1.50 a day."

In 1903 a branch office for an eye specialist is located there.

August 27, 1910: "The well-known Hotel Archer on Oliver street has been reopened by Mr. E. L. Dindruff and is prepared to serve transients and boarders in a first class manner."

Want ads suggest there is a barber shop, restaurant and buffet. Meetings by diverse groups such as saloonkeepers unions and fire commissioners are held there regularly.

In 1919 the NT Teachers Assn. considers purchasing the building to house female teachers "forced to live out of town."

A March 19, 1921 obit for Mrs. Edith M. Dindruff (born in Pekin) says she dies at hotel, and her husband Duane Dindriff is the proprietor.

By 1921 it is purchased and remodeled as the new home of the Orioles Club in the Tonawandas.
